Bedtime Stories

Bedtime Story 1
Paddymagic the Bedtime Story by Richard Martin

Hello. My name is Paddymagic, Paddy for short. I am writing to you because I have found love, happiness and hope in my life again. I want to tell you my story and share the magic with you.

When I was young I lived with my family in a big old house deep in the woods in Ireland. We were a happy-go-lucky bunch, without a care in the world. Everyday, my brother and sisters and I would hunt for food in the forest, bringing home berries and nuts for my mother. On a cold day in November, I went out fishing in a stream near our house alone. When I returned, the door of the house was open and a dark, ominous silence crept from within. I searched high and low for my family but they were gone. Suddenly a big green frog leapt onto the kitchen table and spoke to me. He said: "Your family was taken away by the evil fairies and can only return if you summon the good fairies to bring them back safely." The frog, who turned out to be a young prince that had been transformed by an evil spell, went on to tell me how to summon the good fairies and bring me good luck. He told me I needed to find three items: :
* Paddymagic seeds
* A Paddymagic Stone
* 3 Lucky Irish pennies.
It took me many days and many nights to find these things. I traveled through cities and countryside until I brought them back to my house in the woods. I put the lucky pennies in a secret place, put the stone in my pocket and planted the shamrock seeds, just as the frog had told me. Immediately the room went very quiet and a group of fairies appeared before me. They congratulated me on my fortitude and vowed to bring my family back safely. As soon as they disappeared I realized just how tired my travels had made me. Within the blink of an eye, I was fast asleep at the kitchen table. I must have slept for a long time, because when I awoke it was very dark outside. I looked out of the window and saw a bright light in the distance in the woods. As it drew nearer, I could see it was the light of several torches burning. I couldn’t believe what I saw. I thought I was still dreaming. Out of a clearing in the woods came more than a dozen fairies carrying flaming torches the lit up the night sky and between them were my parents and my brothers and sisters. It was the happiest moment of my life and made me believe in the power of magic. Let me share that magic with you by explaining how each item should be looked after.

The Paddymagic seeds need to be planted in the garden or in a window pot. They are a place where the fairies can come and visit or stay. It also helps spread a little bit of Paddymagic around the world. They need to be watered once a day and when you do make a wish. The Paddymagic Stone must be kept with you at all times. Kiss it or even just rub it to release its magic. Then make a wish. The lucky pennies must be hidden carefully like treasure. Hide one in the garden, Hide one in the house. and give the last one to your best friend and make a wish.

Good luck in finding your happiness and maybe you might send some Paddymagic to someone you care about.

Bedtime Story 2
Created by Jacie Stralko Duca (Michigan)

Do You Believe?
Alas! Tis the time of year when Father Time takes a hold of Mother Natures hand, and waltzes in the beauty of the season commonly known as Spring. Old Man Winter sits back and scowls for he has never been invited to join in the merriment of the festivities going on. For his season has now come and gone.
Tiny fairies in wardrobes of various bright colors gather dead leaves, and broken twigs left from Winters harshness. They create hues of green upon the earth, and bring forth a spectrum of colors on the barren land once dull, and cold from the season past. They giggle, and frolic in rhythmic play as they prepare for the new growth called Spring.
Yes, I hear them call to me "Come join in our dance" and prepare for the re-birth of the season.
Never seeing them, but always aware of their presence I carefully move about the yard. Some areas are yet snow capped, and crusted to the earth as if being held by a magnet. I delight, however in the clean up activity.
I hear the fairies laugh uncontrollably until one squeals aloud saying "
She stepped in doggie doo doo" hee hee hee! Now, as upset as I may be I too have to smile, and laugh at my carelessness. I clean up the mess, and return to my work obviously now much more cautious as to my footing.
Guess I was trying to be careful not to step on the fairies and didn't stop to think that there was more in our yard other than dead leaves and broken twigs.
The sun plays peek-a-boo behind billowy white clouds, and the fairies are tiring out as one by one they go into hiding, and their tiny voices disappear by the currents of air which carried them. Respectfully, I do not beg them to stay to keep me company. I have made several mounds of leaves myself that need to be disposed of. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN WHOOSH!
I realize Mother Nature's gown has has accidentally touched the work I had just done. Apparently, the waltz tune had no turned into a swing tune (perhaps a jazz tune) I smile, and nod as if to say "It's okay, no big deal" as I rake up the strewn about leaves and sticks.
I began to grow tired now myself, and return the lawn utensils to their proper place. By now Mother Nature and Father Time have concluded their dance.
Suddenly, I hear what seems to be a wee voice coming from behind the old Oak tree. As I turn to look I cannot believe my eyes. The rarest of all sights. It's a fairy actually making herself visable to me. I'm agasp!
She gives me a wink, and blows me a kiss I catch the kiss with an open hand in mid air. She then smiles and says "To you I give goodness, happiness, and luck" Then she asks me to make her a promise as she
reveals herself to me more. Still amazed by this experience I whisper "YES" The promise (she says) is to pass on the goodness, happiness, and luck I have shared with you to another human being, by just being nice
and kind. Thus giving the Oath Of Fairyhood to ever believe in goodness. So as the season of Spring comes to all of us I pass the Fairyhood onto you, and in return you must pass it onto another and they another forever keeping goodness and the belief in fairies alive.

Bedtime Story 3 The Well at the Worlds End
The Well at the Worlds End by unknown

Once upon a time there was a King who had three sons called Art, Neart, & Ceart. One day the King feel ill and he sent for his three sons. He promised them whoever brought him back a bottle of water from the Well at the Worlds Ned would inherit his crown. Well and good the three set bravely out but soon Art & Neart returned home as they grew tired of the hardship. However Ceart pressed on, meeting with the occasional adventure until in the heel of the hunt he came to a cottage where an old woman lived. I'm in search of the Well at the Worlds End he told her. I am a 100 years living in this house she replied and in all that time I never heard of the place. However I have a sister along this road and she might be able to help you. She gave him a silver ball to throw along the road before him and away he went further than I could tell you and twice as far as you could tell me, until as evening was falling he came on the house of an even older woman. I am insearch of the Well at the Worlds End Ceart explained. I am 200 years living in this place and in all that time I have never heard of the like. But I have another sister further along the road and she might be able to help you. She gave Ceart an old nag and he set out along the road. Away and away he rode, further than I could tell you and twice as far as you could tell until as the moon was coming up he came to the house of an even older woman. I am in search of the Well at the Worlds end he said. I am over 300 years living in this place and I have never heard trace or tidings of such a well. But at the furthest road I have a brother who may be able to help you. She gave Ceart the loan of a huge bird to carry him there. Away and away he flew, further than one can ever tell and twice as far as you could imagine until as the stars were paling he came across the house of the oldest man in the world. I am in search of the Well at the Worlds end he said. I am living here 500 years and though many a young man has set out for the well never has one returned he exclaim. I must go to the well to save my father Ceart said bravely. The old man stroked his beard. As soon as the sun came up he went to the edge of the ocean. If the sea wasn’t too near neither was it too far and when they reached the strand, the old man threw a piece of driftwood onto the water which immediately turned into a boat. They both climbed into the boat and without an oar or sail on the boat they went skimming over the ocean until the boat came to rest on an island out of which rose the turrets of a shining castle. This is the Worlds the End the Oldman said. Once every 7 years the Queen of the island and all her court fall asleep. If you're luck is in the lion and the monster that guard the gate will be asleep and snoring. Bravely Ceart went up to the gate past the sleeping lion and the monster to where a great wheel was throwing water out of a well. Ceart filled two bottles one for the old man who had helped him and one for his father. Then Ceart went into the castle. A table was laid with for supper with a bottle of wine, a loaf of bread and a cheese. Ceart started to eat but the more he ate the more there was to eat. The more he drank the fuller the bottle of wine became. The more cheese he ate the bigger the cheese became!. Ceart went into another room where the Queen lay sleeping with her maidens. She was so beautiful with blond hair and blue eyes that he kissed her and left a lock of his hair on her pillow. Then he put the wine, the cheese, bread and two bottles of water into his bag and left the castle. HE took the boat and left the island. When he arrived back on the land he travelled to the old mans house and gave him the water. The old man drank the water and lived forever. He then set off home visiting each of the old ladies who had guided him and gave them each a present wine to the first lady, bread to the second and cheese to the third. On the fourth day he reached his fathers castle and gave the water to his father. The King drank the water recovered his strength and put the crown on the head of Ceart .
A year and a day later the queen woke and remembered the dream she had of a young prince kissing her. She also discovered the lock of hair on her pillow. She thought to herself about the young man who had stole her heart wine, bread and cheese. She was angry and decided that she either wanted to place the prince head on a plate or have his hand in marriage. She set out to find the prince. She spent a night with the sisters and the Oldman. Eventually she arrived at the castle. On arrival she asked the first brother Art was he the prince who kissed and he replied yes! She didn’t believe him as the lock of hair didn’t match his hair. She also asked Neart was he the prince who kissed and again he replied yes! Again she did not believe him. All of sudden Ceart came riding in on his horse and she knew instantly by his golden hair and smile he was the one!
They were married immediately and the wedding lasted a year and a day with the last day being better than the first….

Bedtime Story 4 A Story of Love and Life

A Story of Love and Life by unknown

One day all the sentiments and the human values are travelling on a ship.

The High Spirit, the Sadness, the Wisdom and the Love.

One day the sentiment and the human values found that the ship was about to sink. All of them left on boats. Only the love remained till the last moment. When the ship had almost sank the Love decided to ask for help.

The Richness was passing by in a luxurious boat and the Love said:
"Richness please take me with you"
Richness replied "I cannot take you because the boat is filled with gold and silver and there is no space for you".

The Love decided to ask for help from Vanity. But the Vanity said I cannot help you love as everything here is perfect. I am afraid you might destroy my boat.

Then the Love asked the Sadness who was passing by: "Sadness, please let me come with you" However Sadness replied I am so sad that I must be alone.

Even the High Spirit was passing by but she was so contented that she couldn't hear that somebody was talking to her.

Suddenly a voice said "Come Love, I will take you with me"

There was an old man. The Love was so grateful and so full of happiness that she forgot to ask the old man what his name was.

When they arrived on the shore the old man left.

The Love realised how much she owed the man and asked the Knowledge can you tell me the name of the old man who helped me?

It was the Time said the Knowledge.

The Time? But why was he the only one who helped me? Asked the Love.

The knowledge full of wisdom answered:

"Because the Time is the only one capable to understand how important Love is in life"
